Silver Medal School

Last year Creekview earned its status as a Bronze Medal School for its commitment to health and fitness. This year the school is aiming to achieve Silver Medal status. You can help by logging the miles you walk/run and also the time you and your children spend doing physical activity at home. Please keep track of your physical activity during this school year and send your information to Mr. Chiara.

March 2005 Smoke Signal Spotlight:
New Family Resource Center

Wow! What an opportunity for parents and families! There are so many things there to benefit families, both parents and children. Books and educational toys for the children can be borrowed. Books on parenting, ADHD and other issues/challenges that families face with children are available to the adults. If a family needs some direction in finding services/agencies to help them, this is the place to go. Parenting classes and other supports for parents are offered. Just let them know what you need and they will do their best to help you.

Volunteers run the site to promote early childhood literacy and to strengthen families. They are very friendly and supportive. Go visit them. You will be surprised at the wealth of information they have. The Family Resource Center is located at 85 East 200 South in Price. You may call Moira Prichard for more information. Her numbers are: (435) 820-0290 and (435) 637-4192.

October 2004 Smoke Signal Spotlight:
Enrichment Classes

"Wow!" "Cool!" "Fun!" These are just some of the words we are hearing on Wednesday mornings at Creekview. Enrichment is happening for two different grade levels every Wednesday all year long. What does that mean? That means that every student that attends school at Creekview will be participating in two different enriching activities each time they attend enrichment on Wedensdays.

What are enriching activities? We have four different enrichment areas that we are concentrating on this year: Art, Music, Technology and Library/Jr. Great Books. Mrs. Vila Jewkes is the music specialist and she has been working with the Creekview choir for many years and has a vast knowledge of music. Mrs. Lori Perez ist he library specialist and knows how to retain the interest of the students while teaching them things that most of their teachers don't know. Mrs. Debbie Howa is our technology specialist and is very current on the latest technology. She is giving our students the tools that they will need in order to be successful in their future learning endeavors. Mrs. Julie Yuoso is our art specialist. She has a degree in art education and works extensively with community theatre designing sets and posters. We are so lucky to have specialists in all of these areas to teach our students.

We have been learning about turnips and popcorn in the library and notes, treble clefts and what we like about ourselves in music. Technology has been great fun with Bailey's Bookhouse and Storybook Weaver. All students have found that they are very artistic and that line art and drawing perspective is exciting to learn as well.

Please ask your students what they have been doing in all of these classes. You will be very surprised at what they have to report to you about popcorn or what a rest in music means. Having parents come to help or just observe what their students are doing on Wednesdays is highly encouraged. Come learn and have fun with us!

Bambi Erramouspe, PEAK/6th grade teacher
