CHS Drive-Thru Graduation - May 21, 2020
Due to COVID-19 and social distancing measures currently in place to help everyone stay healthy, this is the plan to honor our amazing CHS 2020 graduates on May 21, 2020. We welcome and invite you to join us!
Dress appropriately in your cap & gown. (You are the “ticket” into the parking lot for drive-thru graduation.)
You will receive your diploma cover and have your picture taken. Teachers (spaced out) will be along the perimeter of the route. (We are so excited that you are passing this important milestone!)
Only YOU are allowed to get out of your vehicle for the picture, but the picture can be taken with the vehicle/family IN the vehicle. You only have a minute or so with the photographer, so it is important that you be able to exit your vehicle quickly for pictures.
One vehicle is allowed per graduate. You can bring as many people as will legally (seatbelts) fit in that vehicle. The graduate MUST be in the vehicle in order to enter the parking lot. One vehicle per grad/family. Additional vehicles without a graduate in them will not be allowed in the parking lot.
ONLY the graduate will get out of the car for the picture, but the car/family can be in the picture. You are welcome to decorate your vehicle, if you wish (messages, posters, decorations, etc.). The passenger side of the vehicle is what will be in pictures.
For ease of traffic flow, vehicles will enter the CHS parking lot at the “top” entrance (closest to the electronic sign/seminary building). You will be directed around the back of the school, past the football and soccer fields. After the picture, you will depart at the lower exit (closer to the bus garage).
Please encourage your family members to use the restroom before coming to graduation.
Please be patient and remember that this is a special day for everyone. Plan on some wait time in your car and enjoy your family while celebrating your graduate. The CHS parking lot will open at 9:45 AM on the day of graduation to begin lining up. We will start graduation at 10:00 sharp. In the case of inclement weather, the show will go on. It will be just one more memory for 2020! The parking lot will close at 1:30 sharp.
ETV will broadcast the pre-recorded graduation program (speeches by valedictorian, salutatorians, keynotes, etc.) on May 21, 2020 at 9:00 AM, 3:30 PM, and 6:00 PM. (This is also included in the DVD that will be mailed to graduates.)
After graduates receive the diploma cover, cars will be sent in groups of 3 to 3 picture stations where a photographer will take a picture with the grad. ONLY the graduate can get out of the car for the picture. The brick wall that says “CARBON” in front of the school will be part of the background. There will also be a banner. ONLY the graduate will exit the vehicle. This helps maintain Health Department mandated social distancing. The passenger side of the vehicle is what will be in the picture. Family may wave/cheer. Windows can be down and family is welcome to join in the celebration moment, but they MUST remain in the vehicle. A free picture will be mailed with the diploma along with details if you would like to order more prints.
After picking up the diploma cover and having a picture, please exit the parking lot and enjoy the rest of your graduation day!
SCHEDULE: 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM
To help with traffic flow and to avoid long wait times, we have divided graduates into groups of approximately 40-45 people per half hour (see schedule below). We ask that you come during that time if at all possible. We understand that sometimes there are schedule conflicts. Therefore, it is POSSIBLE to come at a different time. We would ask that if possible, you come at your scheduled time. If you miss your time, the parking lot/photographers will be open until 1:30 PM.
