August 12, 2020

We are so excited to have our students returning to Carbon High School.  Countless hours have been spent discussing and planning for the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.  We believe that the plans we have in place are appropriate for all, follow all state guidelines, and approved by the Southeastern Utah Health Department.  Here are some procedures that need to be followed and other information necessary at this time.

  • All students, staff, faculty, administration, and visitors must wear a face covering that covers the mouth and nose.  These face coverings must follow the school dress code. Face covering compliance will be strictly enforced. A disposable mask will be offered to those who do not have one.  Any refusal to follow the Governor’s Executive Order will result in the student or visitor being asked to leave the building.

  • All students, staff, faculty, administration, and visitors will be regularly advised to practice physical distancing, wash hands frequently, and sanitize often.  Sanitizer stations will be positioned throughout the building.

  • All classrooms will be sanitized after each period. Materials handled during the period that are shared between students will also be sanitized.

  • Carbon High School will have one main entrance and one main exit to be used during the school day.  Everyone will enter through the main doors from the front parking lot.  Everyone will exit through the double doors to the east of Grand Canyon.  Directional signage will be posted throughout the building.

  • Please symptom check your student before sending them to school. If there are symptoms of COVID-19 (see symptoms list below) or a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, please keep them home. Remote learning will be available for students who need to stay home for up to 2 to 4 weeks .

  • All visitors will have a symptoms check including temperature prior to entering  the building. This will take place at the building entrance. Please comply with entrance requirements to ensure safety for all our students.

  • Parents/Guardians picking up students will enter the building to check out the student at the attendance window by the main entrance. Parents/Guardians can pick up their student outside the double doors east of Grand Canyon.

  • Utah High School Activities Association has approved our sports season with very specific requirements. During our activities and sporting events, all UHSAA requirements will be enforced. Face Coverings must be worn at all times, families must stay together, non Carbon High School students who are attending without parents will not be allowed entrance. Changes to concessions will also take place. Failure to comply may result in our athletic season (all sports) being cancelled.  Please comply so our student athletes can play.

  • Due to construction, several parking spaces will be blocked.  Please carpool when possible to assure parking for all students and visitors. DO NOT park in red zones or marked NO PARKING zones.

  • Carbon’s bell schedule will not change. Please see the full bell schedule on the CHS website.

  • The first day of school, August 19th, 2020, will be a full school day. All students will report to their 1st period class when the bell rings.  Instructions for the remainder of the day will be given in 1st period. We will be discussing the COVID-19 policies for the school, as well as celebrating the students return to CHS. We need all students to attend if possible.

If you have any questions, please contact the school at 435-637-2463.
