Take Home Library
Students need additional practice with literacy beyond the regular classroom day. Bruin Point Elementary wants students and parents to read and efforts have been made to provide families rich, appropriately leveled text in their home. To support reading at home, paraprofessionals in the building have created a “Take Home Library” program under the direction of the Reading Coach. Teachers provide Mrs. Grundy with student independent reading levels and the she selects a variety of genre books from the Take Home Library and place them in a bag for checkout. These books are sent home on Tuesday and Thursdays and need to be returned weekly.
Parents are encouraged to ask their students questions about what they are reading and students should read books multiple times until they can read them fluently with proper rate, voice and expression.
