CHS Student Checkout and May 2020 Final Week Activities. We hope your family is safe and healthy! As we move forward, the future isn’t clear, but it is bright! We look forward to the day when our students will be back with us, and we can once again be together. With the COVID -19 virus, cleaning at CHS has been increased and the entire school will be sanitized. This includes ALL lockers, classrooms, gyms, weight & locker rooms, etc. In order to facilitate a locker clean out along with our regular student checkout for the year (fees, textbooks, instruments, athletic gear etc.), we are putting into place specific procedures. These procedures have been reviewed and approved by South Eastern Health District officials. We will adhere to recommended social distancing during checkout. The instructions have been sent out by mail, email, the CHS Webpage, and can be found using the following link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tdrzfLN0Kb2QRMEAN-sgSF3apK2HHn61K55TstvVD5c/edit Use the the link below (or CHS website) to signup for a day and time to come in a checkout at the school. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D48A8AE22A1FD0-carbon You will be turning in your Chromebook, any textbooks, library books, borrowed team uniforms or equipment, and pay any fees. If you have concerns about being able to pay all your fees at this time, please talk to the office to work out accommodations. Over the next two weeks student activities will be available on the school website at the bottom of the page in the calendar section. Each department will share one activity each day. You can access them using a cell phone, tablet or home computer during the weeks. If you want to print off all of the activities using a Chromebook before you return it to the school you can. If you are unable to access the activities, please do not worry, your grade will not be impacted by these activities, the idea is to keep you connected to the school and learning for two more weeks. If you need to use your Chromebook over the next two weeks for completing assignments, or taking tests in AP or Concurrent Enrollment classes, please sign up for one of the last days in the middle of May to return your Chromebook. Check with your teachers to see if you will need a Chromebook after Monday. We look forward to seeing you all one last time before summer break.

Graduation and Prom are still happening at Carbon High School. We wanted to make everyone, especially our Seniors, aware that the administration, teachers and staff at CHS are committed to making sure there is a Junior Prom and Graduation Ceremony this year. We don't know when those events will happen this summer (or possibly Fall), but no matter how long we have to wait, they will still happen. We are planning a Graduation Event for May 21st, to commemorate the actual day of Graduation. More details on this event will be coming, and we will adhere to all requirements given to use by the Health Department. If circumstances change in the next 4 weeks, we may alter this event. However, this event will not replace the formal graduation ceremony that we will have as soon as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and we can all get back together again. This is very important to us and we want to assure everyone that we are doing all we can to make sure our Seniors can still celebrate there 4 years at CHS the right way.

Message from Sheriff Wood- I want to personally wish everyone a happy Halloween! With that said I want to remind everybody that we want you to have fun but don’t let Halloween mischief turn criminal. Be respectful of people’s personal property and keep an eye out for the trick or treaters tonight in our travels. We will have extra patrols in the areas we believe will be most impacted by this event. Extra patrols will be conducted with two person teams riding UTV’s in order to assist with traffic/pedestrian control. We feel this is a great opportunity for our Deputies to interact with the public in a fun and positive way. They will have candy to give out to the kids, but would ask that the public only approach our UTV’s when they are safely parked on the curb. We want everyone to have fun, but want to remind everybody to be careful while driving through these busy neighborhoods tonight. I wanted to bring up a topic that has been on my mind a lot recently. The use of social media at times is a blessing and a curse. I would ask that before you make a post, to think about the outcomes of the post and the purpose of your message. All too often I see social media posts that are posted with good intentions, but become a negative message in the community. From a law enforcement standpoint it needs to be known that we cannot always post details of an investigation but will always make public safety a top priority. We will never take unnecessary risks with public safety and will assure you the public will be notified immediately upon a serious and substantiated threat to our community. This notification would come through all media outlets, social media and the phone systems in the event of an actual substantiated issue. The fact that a single unsubstantiated post on social media can spread through the community and cause panic is frustrating. All too often the facts get skewed in the rumor mill, but may be portrayed as actual and factual information which can causes panic in the community. Please be careful of what you post, contact your local law enforcement upon any suspicious activity, questions, or concerns. Trust that your local law enforcement agency is taking your concerns seriously and appropriate measures are in place. You are always welcome to contact me with any questions or concerns that may be related to an event or incident that has occurred in our community. I would like to remind you “if you see something say something”. Again, I would like to wish everyone a happy Halloween, have fun but be careful out there. I am proud to be part of this community and honored to be in the position of Sheriff. We truly live in a great place. Thanks Jeff Wood
