CHS Dino Girls Swim earn 2nd place at 3A State Swim Finals

Two weeks after taking home the region championship, the Carbon Lady Dinos wrapped up a second-place finish at the 3A State Championships Saturday night in Provo at Brigham Young University.

Competing against 22 schools, the Lady Dinos finished with 251 points, falling short Of Judge Memorial’s first place total of 320. Canyon View, Juan Diego, and Ogden rounded out the top five.

Saturday’s second-place performance gives Carbon a run of seven consecutive seasons finishing inside the top three. During that stretch, the Lady Dinos have won three state championships.

Senior Alyssa Chamberlain had a meet to remember as she placed inside the top eight in all four of her events, while breaking a 37-year-old school record.

Chamberlain, the lead swimmer in the 200-freestyle relay, set a new Carbon school record in the 50-freestyle with a time of 25.86. The previous record was set back in 1987 by Tina Gentry. Lisa King, Kanyon Christensen and Mia Crompton teamed with Chamberlain to finish third in the event with a time of 1:46.90, a half second behind Judge Memorial and Juan Diego.

Carbon secured its highest placing of the weekend in the 400-freestyle relay. Chamberlain, Hadley Bower, Ada Bradford, and Crompton ended with a time of 3:57.87.

Chamberlain also earned a third-place finish in the 100-freestyle. A sixth-place nod in the 50-freestyle rounded out a stellar performance to close out her Carbon High School swim career.

Bradford also finished inside the top eight in all four of her competing events. Joined by Lillian Seeley, Lily Thayn and Lisa King, the team finished sixth overall in the 200-medley relay. Bradford added an eighth-place finishes in both the 200-freestyle and 100-backstroke.

Crompton grabbed a fifth-place finish in the 100-freestyle as she secured a time of 58.31. Elli Hanson joined Bradford in the 200-frestyle, scoring a sixth-place finish with a time of 2:13.20. Evie Halk gave Carbon an eighth-place performance in the 500-freestyle, finishing in 6:07.10.
