Retirement has not been an easy decision for Judy Giordano-Olson. Her remarkable career as a Speech-Language Pathologist has spanned thirty-seven years, with thirty-one of those dedicated to serving the students of Carbon School District.
Throughout her career, Judy has had the privilege of working with students across all grade levels—from preschool through high school. She also holds the unique distinction of having worked in or supervised nearly every school building in the district, with the exception of Creekview—an omission she considers her loss.
As an itinerant SLP, Judy experienced both the joys and challenges of a constantly changing work environment. From rolling her suitcase of materials into isolated corners of schools to creating lasting relationships in familiar classrooms, she always adapted with dedication and grace. She spent nineteen fulfilling years at Castle Valley Center, where going to work felt like being with family, and more than a decade at Castle Heights, surrounded by loyal and supportive colleagues.
No matter the setting, Judy has always felt seen, supported, and valued—particularly by the current administration, whose encouragement has meant the world to her.
As she moves into retirement and looks forward to new adventures, Judy carries with her countless memories. One stands out in particular. A student once wrote her a thank-you note after completing therapy, saying she was glad her face wouldn’t hurt anymore. Initially concerned, Judy was relieved and touched to read the rest of the note: “My face hurts from smiling so much in speech!”
That sentiment has become Judy’s goal in retirement—to continue making faces hurt… from smiling.
Thank you, Judy for your decades of dedication and unwavering commitment to the students and families you served.
