The 14th Annual Dutch Oven Cook Off at Mont Harmon Middle School took place today, showcasing the talents and creativity of students who recently learned the art of Dutch oven cooking from World Champions Bill and Toni Thayn. The event has grown so large over the years that the Thayns have recruited friends to help man the charcoals and assist students throughout the competition.
After weeks of preparation and hands on instruction, students put their new skills to work cooking up an impressive variety of dishes including peach cobbler, baked mac and cheese, breakfast burritos, and even two layer cakes.
Blind judging was conducted by local law enforcement officers led by MHMS School Resource Officer Frankie Tapia.
Taking home 1st place honors were Berklee, Porter and Taylee with their unforgettable Cookie Monster cake. Rio and Gracie earned 2nd place with a delightful two layer strawberry shortcake, while Addi secured 3rd place with her family Dutch oven potatoes recipe.
The annual event continues to be a favorite tradition at Mont Harmon, giving students the opportunity to learn valuable cooking skills, work as a team, and share their creativity through food.
