August 3, 2023

Dear Students and Parents,

We are so excited to be back in school! Your classroom teacher has been working hard these past few weeks preparing the classroom for school which starts on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023 at 8:10 am for all 1st - 5th grade students. Classroom teachers will begin greeting their new students on the playground near their outside classroom door on Wednesday, August 16th starting at 7:50 am. The entrance bell rings daily at 8:10 am and the tardy bell rings at 8:15 am. School dismisses Tuesday-Friday at 2:40 pm. On Mondays, students are dismissed early at 1:20 pm so that teachers can participate in school wide Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

Just a reminder that Kindergarten students will start school the following week on Wednesday, August 23th, 2023 after completing their beginning-of-year student testing.

School breakfast is $1.50 and school lunch is $2.10 for students. Students who want to purchase milk only will be charged $0.50. Visit our school webpage for the link to apply for free and/or reduced lunch if you need to be considered for this waiver or contact the office. Breakfast will be served from 7:45-8:10 am. This is when the building will be unlocked and supervision begins.

Students can still pay their school lunch money in the cafeteria each morning before the school day begins. Parents can also pay for a student's lunch on the Carbon School District website at https://www.carbonschools.org/. Look for the “Nutrition and Services” tab. Daily Breakfast and Lunch Menus for each school is also available on this tab.

Mark your calendar for our Back-2-School Night on Wednesday, August 23th from 5:00-7:00 pm. We will start off with an “Introduction Meeting” at 5 pm in the gym.  Parents will then go to your child's classroom for teacher specific information. Teacher rotations will be from 5:30-7:00 pm with 3 sessions for parents to attend: 5:30-5:55 pm, 6:00-6:25 pm, and 6:30-6:55 pm.

Our School Community Council (SCC) is looking for volunteers! If you are interested in getting involved in the decision-making process regarding school improvement goals and asset allocation provided by the Utah Lands Trust, please consider joining. To nominate yourself to serve on our SCC, you can email me at fluckeyw@carbonschools.org. Chelsi Johnson is our current Chairperson and Alex Krum is our Vice-Chairperson.  We will be holding an election for a Secretary on the SCC which will be held in the Castle Heights Library on Thursday, September 21st, 2023 at 3:15 pm in the library.  If you are interested in serving on SCC, please return the School Community Council Candidate Form to the office by Thursday, September 14th, 2023.

Another great way to get involved in school happenings is to join our PTA.  Amanda Steele is our returning PTA president and she has lots of fun ideas for the 2023-2024 school year. Please stop by the PTA table during Back-2-School night to sign up for your PTA membership.

Parents can stay informed with classroom/school activities by checking your child’s backpack daily for letters from their teacher/school. Please make sure that the office has your current phone number so that you receive text messages and updates directly from the school. You can also download our free Carbon School District, UT App, select Castle Heights, to follow us on the web.

I look forward to this new school year and working with all of you!
