Dear Students and Parents,

We are so excited to be back in school! Your classroom teacher has been working hard these past few weeks preparing the classroom for school which starts on Wednesday, August 17th, 2022 for all 1st - 5th grade students. Classroom teachers will begin greeting their new students on the playground near their outside classroom door on Wednesday, August 17th starting at 7:50 am. The entrance bell rings daily at 8:10 am. and the tardy bell rings at 8:15 am. School dismisses Tuesday-Friday at 2:40 pm. On Mondays, students are dismissed early at 1:20 pm so that teachers can participate in school wide Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

Just a reminder that Kindergarten students will start school the following week on Wednesday, August 24th, 2022 after completing their beginning of year student testing.

Our grant to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students has expired. School breakfast is $1.50 and school lunch is $2.00 for students. Students who only want to purchase milk will be charged $0.50. Visit our school webpage for the link to apply for free and/or reduced lunch if you need to be considered for this waiver. Breakfast will be served from 7:45-8:10 am. This is when the building will be unlocked and supervision begins.

Students can still pay their school lunch money in the cafeteria each morning before the school day begins. Parents can also pay for a student's lunch on the Carbon School District website at https://www.carbonschools.org/. Look for the “Nutrition and Services” tab. Daily Breakfast and Lunch Menus for each school is also available on this tab.

Mark your calendar for our Back-2-School Night which will be held in your child’s classroom on Wednesday, August 24th from 5:30-7:00 pm. There will be 3 sessions for parents to attend: 5:30-5:55 pm, 6:00-6:25 pm, and 6:30-6:55 pm.

Our School Community Council (SCC) is looking for volunteers! If you are interested in getting involved in the decision-making process regarding school improvement goals and asset allocations provided by the Utah Lands Trust, please consider joining our School Community Council (SCC). To nominate yourself to serve on our SCC, email me at fluckeyw@carbonschools.org. We are accepting nominations for Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and Secretary on the SCC through Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Elections for these positions will be held in the Castle Heights library on Wednesday, September 21th, 2023 at 3:15 pm in the library.

Another great way to get involved in school happenings is to join our PTA. Amanda Steele is our new PTA president and she has lots of fun ideas for the 2022-2023 school year. Please stop by the PTA table which will be set up outside the main entrance doors during Back-2-School night to sign up for your PTA membership.

Parents can stay informed with classroom/school activities by checking your child’s backpack daily for letters from their teacher/school. You can also download our free Carbon School District, UT App, select Castle Heights to follow us on the web.

With that said, I look forward to this new school year and working with all of you!
