Dear Families,
At Wellington Elementary School, the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our school safe, we will be conducting a lockdown drill this week.
A lockdown drill is a practice activity that helps students and staff learn what to do if we ever need to secure the building for safety. Just like fire drills help us prepare for a fire, lockdown drills help us prepare for other kinds of emergencies.
During the drill, teachers will calmly guide students through the steps of staying safe in their classrooms. Students will practice listening carefully, remaining quiet, and following adult directions. All instructions will be shared in an age-appropriate and reassuring way so that students feel supported and safe.
We understand that hearing about a lockdown drill can feel concerning. Please know that this is a routine safety practice and that our staff works hard to make the experience as calm and positive as possible for children. We will have many outside agencies (Sheriff’s Department, Local Police, District Resource Officers) helping with this drill. They are here to give us feedback on what we did well and what we need to work on.
Please note that if you arrive at the school and there is a sign on the door that we are in the middle of a drill you will not be allowed to enter the building until the drill is over.
I have attached a link to an information sheet about all of the drills that we practice during the year. If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact the school office. Thank you for your continued partnership and support in keeping Wellington Elementary a safe place for every student.

Safe School Information

Sincerely,
Paulie Vogrinec, Principal
