Hello CHS Parents/Guardians,
Carbon High School is committed to doing all we can to try and keep students and guests safe when they are in the building. While we can’t prepare for every possible situation, we try to think ahead of areas where we can practice and improve. One area we are concerned about is what happens if there was an emergency during an event in the gym; a basketball or volleyball game or an assembly? We have been working with the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office to plan a DRILL that would simulate what might happen if a situation were to occur during a basketball game. This DRILL is scheduled to take place on March 4th, at 2:30 PM at Carbon High School. It will only impact activities in the gym, not in the rest of the school. Students in classes will continue learning as normal during the DRILL and will be kept in the classrooms and out of the halls.
We are letting parents know so they can be aware of what is going on at the school that afternoon. If you need to check your student out of school early, please be aware that law enforcement will be blocking access to the parking lot starting at 1:30 so you will need to get you student out of class before then. While a few students will be part of the DRILL, the majority of the students will be in classes participating in normal class activities. This DRILL will be completed before school gets out at the end of the day and students will be dismissed at their normal time.
We appreciate your support during this DRILL. While we hope to never face any emergency situations, we are confident that DRILLS like this will help us be better prepared for situations that may come up in the future.

One clarification on the student bus. The students need to be excused by a written note in the attendance office.

Carbon High School would like to congratulate both the boys and girls basketball teams on their success this season. Both teams are currently participating in the State Tournament at the Sevier Valley Center on Richfield.
The boys will play in a consolation game against Grand High School tomorrow at 12:00pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children.
The girls are playing in the semifinal game against Morgan tomorrow at 3:00pm. Any fans who would like to attend the girls game will need a voucher in order to purchase a tickets. Tickets prices will be the same, the voucher just guarantees a ticket will be available. Mr. Bean will be outside the area at 2:00pm to pass out vouchers for Carbon fans.
If you attend both games, the boys at noon and the girls at 3:00, you will be required to buy separate tickets for both games. Before the girls game, the area will be cleared of all fans, and only those with a voucher will be able to buy a ticket for the girls game. Once all the vouchers have been redeemed, if there are any available seats, they will be sold to the general public.
We are excited for both teams to continue their run in the State Tournament and wish them both success.

Carbon School District is seeking applications for a Science Teacher at Carbon High School. Required to teach students on a specific scientific subject. Will plan the curriculum for their classes and then deliver that curriculum. Teachers evaluate and mentor their students. Evaluations usually take the form of grading homework, tests, and projects. Teachers keep records of these grades so students, parents, and school administrators know where the students stand. Mentor students, encouraging them to excel in their schooling. Teachers may also work closely with students interested in the sciences and help direct them to the right educational path. Science teachers report directly to the school administrators. At the minimum, this position requires a bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate OR the ability to obtain such. Open until filled. Tomorrow the sign up for the student section for the girls basketball game will be located on the school website starting at 8AM. We will be taking the first 50 to sign up.

We wanted to provide some clarification on the previous message this morning. In order for students to be admitted to the game they need to be on the student list or be a sibling of one of the players. Each player will continue to get 4 tickets. Those tickets don't have to be family but do need to be siblings or adults. Sorry for any confusion.

We are happy to announce that UHSAA has allowed us to have a student section at athletic events again. We will be limited to 50 students. For todays game students can sign up in the office. It will be first come first serve. In the future there will be an online link to sign up on the Carbon High School website. Students can no longer get in as a guest of one of the participants. Only students who have signed up will be allowed into the game. Spectators coming for participants must be family members of that participant. Students in the student section must still wear masks or they will be asked to leave. We are excited to have students back at the game, but we ask all those in attendance to continue to follow state guidelines of masks and social distancing.
