CSD Parents, As our winter weather approaches, we would like to communicate our district's plan to safely transport students during heavy snowfall. COMMUNICATION WILL BE PROVIDED ANY TIME THERE IS AN ADJUSTMENT TO THE NORMAL SCHOOL DAY. The following plan will be implemented when we experience heavy snowfall such that we cannot safely transport students to school as normally scheduled. 1. Carbon School District does not intend to cancel school for snow. We will use a "Late Start" schedule through the winter months. All district schedules will be adjusted by two (2) hours. For instance, if your child boards the bus at 7:00 on a normal day, they would board at 9:00 on a "Late Start" day. If school starts at 8:10 on a normal day, it will start at 10:10 on a "Late Start" day. The schools will ALWAYS end at the normal time. 2. In most cases, decisions cannot be made until the morning of the heavy snowfall. If an adjustment to the regular schedule is necessary, parents will be notified by 6:00 a.m. using our parent notification system. In addition, messages will be posted on all school and district websites and social media. 3. All Carbon School District preschool programs will be canceled on "Late Start" days. Carbon School District is seeking applications for a Resource Aide at Helper Middle School in Helper, Utah. Assists teachers with Special Education students to enable learning with minimal disruptions to other students. Due to the varied and individual needs of each student, the Special Education Aide may provide a variety of support and assistance, and should be flexible adjusting to student needs. Special education aides have more responsibility than a typical teacher's aide/assistant. They work alongside special education teachers and/or therapists to teach children with emotional and behavior disorders, intellectual disabilities, problems with communication, or physical disabilities.  Will work approximately 29 hours per week.  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  Must be able to pass a LiveScan fingerprint background screening.  Starting pay is $14.92 per hour. Carbon School District is seeking applications for a Substitute Bus Aide. This is a sub position and will be scheduled when route aides need time off.  Will perform a variety of tasks to help support the driver in providing safe and proper transportation of all students to and from school. Must know the proper use of securing devices for safety restraints, wheelchairs and seat belt; will assist the driver in the proper loading and unloading of passengers; maintain student discipline; supervise and assist students in transit; report any concerns regarding students to the driver and to the appropriate building staff.; know the school bus evacuation procedures and be physically capable to evacuate students in an emergency; learn the bus route and provide route information that includes driver directions for the best way to reach a location for a substitute or newly assigned bus driver, occupy a seat that provides the best opportunity for student supervision while the bus is in motion.  Can work up to 20 hours per week. Parents/Guardians, there are approximately 94 students who have not been ENROLLED as of October 17, 2023. We will be sending out an email later this afternoon with the instructions of how to enroll your student. This email will ONLY go to those students still needing to be enrolled. This MUST be done ASAP so that the school has updated information, your student can be publicly recognized, and for the school to have emergency contact information. If you have already enrolled your student, please disregard this message.

Attention Boys Wrestling participants. Open mats will be held Monday - Thursday from 3:30 - 5:30 pm and will begin Monday, October 16th. The activity bus leaves at 5:20 pm. The coaches are aware of this and will make accommodations accordingly.

6th grade parents/guardians, do not forget that the bus for the field trip tomorrow October 11th leaves at 7:35 AM SHARP. Please make sure your student is to school no later that 7:25 AM. Remember if they did not order a lunch from the cafeteria, they need to bring a home lunch. 7th grade parents/guardians, the bus for Glen Ray's Corn Maze leaves HMS at approximately 8:20 AM. Please make sure your student is on time for school. Remember they are getting pizza served for lunch, but they are also welcome to bring a home lunch. 8th grade parents/guardians, this is a wonderful time for your student to make up any missing work with their teachers before the end of the quarter. They will have a normal day, so please ensure your student is in attendance.

Parents/Guardians, it is that time of year where we are getting ready to start the Plan for College and Career Readiness (PCCR) meetings. All 7th grade students and their parents/guardians are REQUIRED to participate in a group PCCR meeting. These meetings will be held during Parent Teacher Conferences on October 9th and 10th. Parents/Guardians- Please remember that we have school pictures AND sports pictures (volleyball, football, and cross country) on September 29th. School pictures will be in the morning and sports pictures will be in the afternoon.

Parents & Guardians, we are sending home letters today with your students which has the information for you to create your Parent Portal. This will allow you to see your students grades and attendance. Please contact the school with any questions.

Important Information for Homecoming Game: Parents excusing their student to leave school after the parade must contact the office NO LATER than 11:30 AM on September 15, 2023. Students will only be allowed to be picked up by parent/guardian or designee. Students will not be excused to walk. Students not excused will return to HMS to resume the regular school day. Route buses will run as normal.
